Phonics Bubble Mazes: Short Vowel Words
We’ve made it to June! I know while some teachers have finished for the year, others are still going strong! This month’s “treasure” would be perfect for end of the year kindergarten or beginning of the year first grade. It’s a fun phonics resource that incorporates reading, phonics, and writing!
Phonics Bubble Mazes: Short Vowel Words is a fun way to practice recognizing, reading, and writing words with short vowels. Each bubble maze focuses on a different short vowel word family. Each page has a fun bubble maze- a box of bubbles with a word inside. The bubble maze starts in the top left corner with a picture. The word for that picture is either to the right of the picture or below it.
Students will color in the starting picture and its word. They will then proceed to find all the words ending with the same word family (seven in total), coloring them in as they find them. This will create a path from the starting picture to the ending picture. (See example above)
After students find their way through the bubble maze, they will write the seven words in the bubbles they colored. On the bottom half of the page, there are writing lines so students can practice writing sentences using the words they wrote above.
How to use this resource:
- Use the Phonics Bubble Mazes as an early finisher activity.
- Use as a homework assignment.
- Add to a phonics or word work center.
- Use in small groups or as independent work.
